Flight Settings for success

This Guide will cover basic settings for Flying in SWG Legends and allow you to get set up for successful flight.

Here we see the controls tab of the options menu for SWG much of what you need will be here. Starting top to bottom we see Mouse Sensitivity (Space) this will be critical if you intend to fly Mouse and keyboard in SWG. It will impact how the virtual joystick moves in response to your user inputs. Next we see Game Mouse Dead Zone (Space) a few options down this creates a minimum amount of movement required to move the virtual joystick from centre. If you have problems with bumping or moving the mouse by mistake you might want some of this, though to keep things responsive I’d advise to have the slider set to 0 as shown. Next the little click boxs, I’d recommend setting them up as shown for beginners but many experienced Pilots choose to turn off Gimbal Correction for turrets, it allows more freedom of movement in your turret shots at the cost of having to manually correct for the movement of the ship as it flys. Try both ways, see what works for you.
The next two sliders only apply if you have a joystick, if there is a fault with the joystick and it has a small amount of drift, you might need the Dead Zone slider up a little, otherwise drop it to zero as shown. Sensitivity will be peronal preference and can be adjusted to taste. Moving past the other options as they are all set to defult and are not important options for flight we move to the bottom 5 sliders. These will be personal taste. If you fly 3rd person, and I recomend you do as it gives you more situational awareness, I personally find success with the sliders set to have my ship sitting just above the radar and the crosshair in the center of the screen. The amount you need to adjust the sliders for this will change ship to ship, so just be aware of where to find these settings so you can tweak them later as needed.

Next we move to the Interface tab, here we have Camera Elasticity (starships only). This setting will alter how much your ship visibly swings as you turn. Most pilots will advise you to set this to zero as pictured, however when I first started I found setting it to zero caused a lot of motion sickness during flight and I had to slowly, every few days come back and turn it down a little more and a little more until I got down to zero.
The reason we want this at zero is it means the crosshair is always dead centre in the screen rather than moving as the ship moves around on the screen. I definitely felt more effective in combat the lower I got this slider down, but don’t make yourself sick chasing zero right away. Some shots on target are better than zero because you made yourself sick and never flew again!
We also see we can adjust the Targeting size here, I’ve left mine default but feel free to tweak this as desired.

Finally we come to keymap. While launched into space a new tab becomes available as seen here, the ship tab. This allows you to tweak and change keybinds specific to space flight. I’d advise you change the missile, chaff and boost buttons to locations you can hit right away, and if you want to PvP one day you will want that missile button somewhere you can comfortably hold down during flight so as soon as the missiles lock they fly for the kill.
As long as you are comfortable find the bindings, and these will be different for everyone you’re all set!

Now all those settings are sorted, its time to head up into the Black and farm some more EXP or Parts!
As always should you need help with anything feel free to ask in the discord.
